Police in a northern community are investigating several arsons that took place over the course of two days earlier this week.

Oxford House RCMP says they received their first report of a fire on November 15, around 2:10 am, in a storage building in the Central area of Bunibonibee Cree Nation, Manitoba. The fire had fully engulfed the building, and the structure was a complete loss. Adjacent buildings received minor damage.

There was nobody in the building at the time of the fire. The people in the adjacent buildings did not receive any physical injuries.

Not even an hour later, at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to a vehicle fire, also in the Central area of the community. Police say the vehicle was a complete loss. Nobody was around the vehicle at the time of the fire. There were no injuries.

The next day, again in the early morning hours another pair of fires broke out in the community. Police say their first call on November 16, 2021, came at approximately 3:35 a.m., for a fire at a residence in the Mud Lake area of Bunibonibee Cree Nation.

The RCMP says that the home was a complete loss. The occupants of the residence were able to exit the building and nobody received any physical injuries.

At approximately 6:05 am that same morning, police were advised there was another structure fire at a residence in the Mud Lake area of the community. The fire was extinguished. There was minimal damage to the property, and nobody received any physical injuries.

The RCMP are investigating these fires as related, and it is believed that the fires were started as a result of arson. The Office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Bunibonibee Cree Nation is approximately 570 km northeast of Winnipeg.
