The Archdiocese of Saint Boniface and Archdiocese of Winnipeg invites everyone to a special Mass to celebrate families.

To finish off the Year of the Family and to commemorate the World Meeting of Families, there will be a big event at the Saint Boniface Cathedral on Sunday, June 19. It will begin at 10:00 am with a Rosary, while the Mass will begin at 10:30 am.

The Mass will be conducted by the Archbishop of St. Boniface, Albert LeGatt, and the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, Monsignor Ward Jamieson.

"Five years ago, Pope Francis wrote Amoris Laetitia, his reflection on the wonder, beauty and challenges of family life. He also set a Year of the Family, which is coming to an end and is being marked on June 26 by a World Meeting of Families in Rome. Here in Winnipeg, we also want to gather people of all ages—parents, young children, teenagers, grandparents, and families of all kinds," says LeGatt in a press release.

He proceeds to acknowledge that not every family looks like the stereotypical nuclear dynamic and wants to let the community know that everyone is welcome to the event that seeks to celebrate all families.

"Amoris Laetitia advocates for a genuine pastoral conversion when approaching people of today who are seeking to live their married lives as well as raising families, in ties of great stress and challenge. This pastoral change is founded on the example of Jesus himself and how he encountered the various people of his day," says Jamieson.

Those who wish to attend are welcome to bring lawn chairs, and blankets and even pack a lunch for a picnic on the Cathedral lawn as it is scheduled to take place outside, weather permitting. This is a bilingual event, open for all.
