While 1.8 billion Muslims around the world are currently fasting and praying through their holy month of Ramadan, missionaries are encouraging Christians to pray for their Muslim neighbours.

Ramadan is being observed by the Muslims from May 5 to June 4, 2019.

"God is doing something great in the Muslim world today. More Muslims are coming into His kingdom by believing in Jesus than ever before."

A spokesperson from Frontiers Canada, an organization that provides a pathway for engaging in the Good News with the Muslim world, says this is the perfect time to pray for them. "This is a great opportunity for believers now to be praying for Muslims."

How to pray

Frontiers Canada has some ideas for praying during Ramadan.

  • Use scripture as a way of engaging. Jesus calls Himself the Bread of Life in the book of John and it's difficult to not eat or drink during daylight hours. Muslims get hungry. Pray that they would get hungry for Jesus. Families gather together every evening for an evening feast to break the fast at the end of the day. Genesis 12:3 says there is a blessing on the families through Abraham.
  • Pray that families would come to salvation. It's tiring when you go all day without eating or drinking water.
  • Pray that Muslims would find spiritual rest according to Matthew 11:28. Muslims also believe there's a double reward for any good works done during the month of Ramadan.
  • In Acts, you see Cornelius having a vision from God that his prayers have been heard. Pray for dreams and visions to be given to Muslims about Jesus
  • Pray for more workers according to Luke 10. Pray that God would send people into the Muslim world bringing His Good News

"It's going to take a prayer movement to reach a prayer movement."

Other ways of praying include praying regionally. Listen to the news, and pray through the news events. Pray for the Uyghurs of Northwestern China with millions of Muslims in detainment camps.

Pray for Syrians, for Arabs in Yemen, for Afghans, for Sudanese and for the country of Sudan. They're in a major change right now.

The countries with the most number of Muslims right now are India, Pakistan, and  Indonesia. Pray into these regions.

The spokesperson said, "We can pray for ourselves as well. Prayer changes us, and we might actually be an obstacle to Muslims experiencing the blessing of God."

"Pray to see Muslims through God's eyes."

And lastly, pray for open doors to meet with and bless Muslim neighbours and express the love of Christ.
