Our on-air's are good at talking fast, but not so good at wrapping. The volunteers at the St. Amant gift wrapping station gave us a hand.

Christmas morning is full of kids ripping open their nicely wrapped presents to see what is underneath. But the suspense isn't there if the toy isn't wrapped. That is where St. Amant comes in.

The St. Amant Foundation is running a fundraiser through Christmas at the St. Vital Mall.

"This is the seventh year that we have been running the gift wrapping [and] coat check program," said Juliette Mucha, Director of the St. Amant Foundation. "All the donations support St. Amant."

Last year, the fundraiser wrapped more than 2000 gifts. Mucha said the lineup on Christmas Eve was out the door and down the hall as mall goers and workers finished up their last minute shopping. Sometimes, the gifts that are being wrapped aren't even for Christmas.

"I remember wrapping up a beautiful diamond ring that a gentleman was about to propose to his friend [with]," Mucha remembered.

The wrapping station has more than a hundred time slots, which are completely filled by volunteers. Since they started the fundraiser, Mucha says they have raised more than $150,000, thanks to the community.

"This is a great community event," Mucha said. "What a fun way to do [fundraising] during the holidays."

Mucha says that many of the patrons donate more towards St. Amant and some get their gift wrapped there just to make a donation.

The wrapping station is open during mall hours until December 24 at 6:00 p.m. It is located beside The Bay.

The St. Amant Foundation provides services to children and adults who are living with disabilities or autism.
