A decision on whether the former truck driver who caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash should be removed from Canada is now in the hands of federal officials.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving for the crash that killed 16 and injured 13 others back in 2018.

Sidhu, a permanent resident of Canada, is fighting deportation back to India because of the conviction.

Scott Thomas, whose son Evan was killed in the crash, says he has submitted a letter in support of Sidhu because the man has paid severely for his crime.

The Canada Border Services Agency is to write a report that will then be considered by the Immigration and Refugee Board.
