An investigation is occurring around the circumstances of an arrest where a woman was later treated in hospital for a broken arm.

On January 19, 2020, Winnipeg Police say they arrived at a call about a 19-year-old woman in distress and found a woman who appeared intoxicated.

They say they tried to arrest her but she resisted, and that after she was handcuffed, she reported soreness in her left arm.

"She was transported to Victoria Hospital where she was treated for fractures to her left arm. As a fracture to the arm is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate," the IIU says in a release.

The Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is asking witnesses or anyone with video of the incident to contact them.
