A massive eyesore in downtown Winnipeg will soon receive a new lease on life.
The billboard on top of the Casa Loma apartment complex on the corner of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street has been donated to the Winnipeg Art Gallery by Sussex Realty.
"We are located across from Sussex Realty (Memorial Boulevard and St. Mary Avenue), and going by there every day we couldn't help but dream about how amazing it would be to use that space to help mark the future site of the Inuit Art Centre. We approached them, and they were incredibly generous and positive, agreeing to the billboard on Memorial Boulevard, as well offering the double-sided billboard on Portage Avenue," said Catherine Maksymiuk, Manager of Media and Marketing at The Winnipeg Art Gallery.
The billboard on Memorial Boulevard was unveiled last week, with plans to take over the Portage Avenue location by spring 2018.
"We plan to feature art and photography to build awareness of the gallery, in particular for the Inuit Art Centre in the lead up to its opening in 2020. It is a high traffic area, so we are very excited to give it new life, and hopefully inspire drivers as they go by," said Maksymiuk
The billboard will come without a price tag until at least 2023.
