The Winnipeg Jets lost 3-2 to the New York Rangers Monday night at Canada Life Centre.

Mika Zibanejad was the overtime hero for New York as he sniped the winner with 26 seconds remaining in the extra session.

Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers who went 5-0 on their road trip through Seattle, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

Panarin drew assists on Zibanejad’s OT winner and Kreider’s power play marker at 13:12 of the third period which tied the game at 2-2. Panarin extended his season-opening points streak to nine games which is tied with Rod Gilbert (1971-72) for the fourth longest in franchise history.

Nikolaj Ehlers and David Gustafsson replied for the Jets who have points in five straight games.

New York’s Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves while Winnipeg netminder Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 shots.

The game marked the return of former Jets captain Blake Wheeler who signed a free-agent contract with the Rangers on July 1st.

The Jets (4-3-2) begin a three-game road trip Thursday when they take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights.
