Up until now, award-winning Christian artist Jordan St.Cyr has only released singles, but now he is sharing the long-awaited EP Be My Defender with fans.

"I've had these songs in my back pocket since, probably the middle of 2019. The plan was to release them early 2020 and then the pandemic hit and I wasn't able to use them to support any sort of touring," says St.Cyr.

He waited to release the single Fires, but after doing so on his own, he garnered so much attention in Canada and the U.S that it brought him to a record deal with BEC Recordings, as he signed with them in November 2020.

"We decided to be patient, felt called to just wait. I think it proved the right decision and God's timing was perfect and these songs are releasing right when people need them."

The EP has three songs on it, including 'Fires', 'Be My Defender', and a new one called 'Turn it Around.' It also has an acoustic song and music video for 'Fires.'

"'Turn it Around' was really just the come back to Jesus song for our story. We had walked through the fire with our youngest daughter's diagnosis. God had stepped in with the song 'Be My Defender' and defended me from my own thoughts. Then we got to the point, where does the life of Christ fit in with our pain and suffering? It got to this beautiful moment and He just took everything."

The EP and each song on it tells a story, one of his family walking through health issues with his youngest child and the uncertainties it caused.

"They tell the story of my wife and I, two parents walking through this because Emery doesn't know anything except what she's known."

St.Cyr's two-year-old daughter, Emery, was diagnosed with a rare condition called Sturge Weber Syndrome when she was 6-months-old. She experienced a few seizures afterward the diagnosis and many hospital visits because of it.

"Ultimately it's more us on the outside looking in, that experience the pain. Coming to a fork in the road, we can either choose to get bitter or we can choose gratitude. God was on that side drawing us towards gratitude."

It's been one year since the pandemic changed the way the world functions, shutting down any concerts and shows for musicians. St.Cyr is looking forward to playing shows to live audiences again.

"He took our ashes, all of this, and turned our tragedy into something that we now look on as one of the best moments of our life, and I know that's crazy to say. How could I take credit for that? This was all Jesus and He's the only one who could turn this situation around for us," he says.

St.Cyr is hoping to release a new radio single before summer.
