Over thirty local businesses and sport organizations have come together to launch the Fitness Journal For Girls today.

The journal is a year-round guide providing exclusive discounts and free sport programs, camps, and classes to girls ages 5-15. It is geared towards girls getting the opportunity to try new sports and activities across Winnipeg, and they will have the chance to win prizes, and participate in weekly summer challenges.

The Journal was started by Andrea Katz and Allison Gervais last year, and it launched because statistics show that girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports than boys have. This gives them the opportunity to play since girls are six times more likely to drop out of sports than boys are by the age of 15.

"We are happy to have the opportunity to not only potentially enhance their lives, but also shape their lives and their realities within," said Valerie Champagne from TopNotch CrossFit, one of the businesses that is supporting this initiative.
