There wasn't an empty seat in the house last night at McNally Robinson Booksellers.

The turnout was for the launch of Seed Falling on Good Soil: Rooting Our Lives in the Parables of Jesus, written by local author Gordon W. King.

King is is a resource specialist for Canadian Baptist Ministries, spending much of his time researching and writing on global issues to equip the local church to participate in God's mission. He has also been a missionary, theological educator, and served on the Canadian government's Immigration & Refugee board, among many other things.

King said that it was from his experience in these fields that the inspiration for this book came.

The evening was hosted by John Longhurst from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and faith columnist with the Winnipeg Free Press.

Many in the audience felt the book was especially applicable for this time as Manitoba sees an insurgence of migrants illegally crossing into Manitoba. They felt the book, and Jesus' parables, provided good insight into how Christians could be responding.

King said that while the book does provide guidance for the collective Church, it really is written for the Christian life in the "day-to-day."

You can find the book locally at McNally Robinson and Commonword Bookstore at CMU.
