Lecrae is using his talents as a speaker, author, and rapper to make an impact for God's kingdom in the lives of youth in detention centres.

On November 18, the Christian rapper shared his testimony with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) youth during a visit to the Rockdale Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC).

While many people know Lecrae for his Grammy-winning songs over the past decade, he is also a New York Times best-selling author, entrepreneur, speaker, and philanthropist.

Before his visit at the DJJ, Lecrae sent copies of his brand new book I Am Restored: How I Lost My Religion but Found My Faith for the youth to read. e also rapped for the youth, including 'Set Me Free' off his latest album Restoration.

"It's very important for them to hear from a credible messenger, someone who's walked in their shoes before and also let them know they can be the next Lecrae," says Commissioner Tyrone Oliver.

According to The Christian Beat, Jessie Clarks reported that he shared the critical role his faith plays in his everyday life, his struggles with growing up in a rough neighbourhood, his experiences with incarcerated loved ones, what motivates him to be better, and how writing helped him process his emotions.

"I'm just glad I can support everything they're already doing," posted Lecrae alongside a short video of his time at the detention centre.

He has been going to these centres even before he recorded a single album, rapping for the youth.

"That [first] experience changed me so much I’ve been doing it ever since," says Lecrae on his Facebook post.

He is encouraging other artists, upcoming or already established to share their time at the detention centres as well.

"This is not the end of your story. To all my people behind the walls...you don’t have to be out here to be free," he says.

He has also been busy with his music featured on an Amazon Prime movie, A Night in Miami, an original soundtrack for Spiderman Miles Morales for Playstation, and two days ago he was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
