Hoping to support his friends, Christian rapper/artist Lecrae had a tour date cancelled instead, after sharing his thoughts on Twitter.

"Once upon a time I thought I was done with Christianity," Lecrae tweeted on Januray 18. "But the reality was I was just done with the institutional, corporatized, gentrified, politicized, culturally exclusive version of it."

Lecrae shared the reason for the tweet with The Christian Post, saying he chose to share the tweet last week in response to some believers who are doubting their Christian faith. Lecrae points out the seeming upsurge in well-known Christians "deconstructing" their faith and leaving or denouncing their faith.

“I just thought to myself, ‘Man, I know that feeling.’ But sometimes we throw the baby out with the bathwater, and I wanted to just encourage people that, ‘Hey, I know where you’re [at], what you’re feeling. But sometimes the problem is not with the faith; it’s with the distortions of the faith,’” he tells CP.

Instead of helping bolster his friend's faith and address their doubts, one of his upcoming tour venues cancelled Lecrae's act, along with the openers.

After struggling with a deep depression, which Lecrae goes into detail about on his latest album, Restoration, he says he came to a deeper faith in God than ever before.

"Vulnerability gets people kicked out of exclusive tribes. Jesus welcomes the outcast and seeks to bring healing," says Lecrae in a later tweet.

In spite of everything, Lecrae shares that there are plenty of other people who have contacted him and are eager to rebook the date.
