Many refugees coming into Canada are walking across with only the clothes on their back and a local ministry is hoping to add to their wardrobe.

The International Place of Friendship (IPF) exists to support immigrants, international students and refugees. They run English conversation classes, cooking classes, and help with the transition to Winnipeg. They welcome all into their building with the love of Christ.

The IPF is run by the Wesleyan Church through New Horizons International Church. Justin Bradbury is the lead pastor and says their most important goal is to help the people coming through develop a network of friendships with both Canadians and other newcomers to Canada. "Our centre is really a gathering place," Bradbury says. "We organize regular events to bring these folks together with member's of our congregation."

"Really what we try to do is facilitate friendships, and out of that we try to share the gospel with people."

Bradbury says that IPF regularly works with refugees, but with the recent influx, they are looking to do more. "This week, we've asked our congregation to consider donating winter coats, boots and blankets that we can pass along to agencies working directly with the refugees who have come across the border in recent days."

"I think many of us . . . have watched the news," Bradbury says. "As Christians, it's part of our response. Jesus said to serve him, we serve others who are in need."
