A woman is recovering after being assaulted inside her home.

On Saturday afternoon, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted by a third-party that a woman required someone to check on her wellbeing. Police learned that while the woman was in her residence in the 200 block of Jamison Avenue, she was assaulted by a 32-year-old man.

Arriving at 1:13 p.m., the woman exited her suite but the man did not. Police say the suspect, believed to be armed with knives and wearing body armour, refused to leave.

Soon after, the Tactical Support Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit arrived at the scene, providing assistance to officers. The WPS says tactical communication was provided to de-escalate the situation. The suspect then exited the home at 7:05 p.m.

He was taken into custody with the incident now being safely resolved.

The suspect is facing assault-related offences. Police say they are not releasing the name of the suspect to protect the identity of the victim.
