A 21-year-old visiting a restricted community for a wedding was discovered to have four warrants out against him.

RCMP say that while patrolling on Saturday night on Keyask Bay, they approached a man and questioned why he was in the area. Keyask Bay is in Leaf Rapids, a Northern Manitoba community above the 53rd parallel. As it is under current public health orders, the community cannot be visited by people outside of the area.

When questioning the 21-year-old at 11:30 p.m., RCMP learned he was from Winnipeg and in town for a wedding. He was then reminded of the current health orders.

RCMP say they asked the man for identification, but the man only provided fake names.

After investigating further, officers were able to identify the man as 21-year-old Kyle Baker. RCMP says at the time, he had four warrants for his arrest.

The suspect currently is wanted in Winnipeg for:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault
  • Failing to Comply x8
  • Uttering Threats x2

After Saturday night's encounter, the suspect is being charged with Obstruction and Fail to Comply x2. He is also being charged with Failing to Comply under the Public Health Emergency Order which will cost him $486 in fines.

RCMP says the investigation ongoing.
