A 55-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle collison in southeastern Manitoba Monday afternoon.

The Manitoba RCMP says in a release that officers from the Steinbach detachment were called just before 1 p.m. for a crash on Highway 52, in the RM of La Broquerie.

Mounties say that a vehicle travelling west on Highway 52, near Road 40 East, went into the ditch and struck a pole.

The driver and lone occupant, a 55-year-old male from the RM of La Broquerie, was pronounced deceased at the scene. STARS Air Ambulance had initially been called to respond but was stood down while en route.

The highway was closed for several hours while crews responded and police investigated and was reopened by 4:30 p.m.

Steinbach RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
