A 32-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after causing a collision in a stolen vehicle.

The man was seen driving "dangerously at a high rate of speed" before colliding with another car in the area of Henderson Highway and Kimberly Avenue. The collision resulted in a significant crash, police say.

Emergency personnel services responded to the crash Saturday evening around 9:43 p.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says the driver of the stolen vehicle was determined to be impaired and was taken into custody, then taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash. He has since been released from hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle did not need to be taken to hospital.

The stolen vehicle had been reported stolen from the Minto neighbourhood overnight between Apr. 20 and 21.

The man, who is from Berens River, is facing three charges, including operation of a conveyance while impaired, dangerous operation of a conveyance, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

As mandated by the Criminal Code, the man has been released on an appearance notice.
