A 51-year-old Winnipeg man is dead after his vehicle rear-ended a stopped semi on the South Perimeter Highway.

The collision occurred around 7:45 p.m. Friday evening in the eastbound lanes.

The RCMP says in a release that officers have determined that an eastbound pickup collided into the back of a semi-trailer that had stopped, along with the other traffic, due to a train crossing.

The 51-year-old male driver, from Winnipeg, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The 22-year-old male driver of the semi and his 23-year-old male passenger, both from Winnipeg, were not injured.

RCMP Central Traffic Service along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
