A man who was allegedly armed with a gun in front of an Osborne Village home was shot by police Wednesday afternoon. 

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release sent out Wednesday evening that officers were called for reports of a man armed with a gun in the 300 block of Gertrude Avenue. The call came in around 3 p.m. and officers from the North, West, and East Districts, as well as the Tactical Support Unit resounded.

Police say they located the armed man in front of a residence.

"During the incident, a firearm was discharged by one of the officers striking the adult male," police say. 
 
Officers immediately provided emergency medical care. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition.
 
Police say that no further information regarding the incident will be released at this time.
