A man has been upgraded to stable condition after he was shot during Wednesday's afternoon rush hour. 

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says they were called around 5:00 p.m. for a report of a male that had been shot and was lying in the roadway on Mountain Avenue near Salter Street. A transit bus stopped near the victim before police arrival.
 
Responding officers were able to administer emergency first aid before the arrival of ambulance personnel. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable.
 
Mountain Avenue was shut to traffic for several hours while the investigation continued.
