Authorities say a man who fled on foot after a cash robbery was easily identified by an on-duty RCMP officer.

RCMP Manitoba says on Thursday at 1:10 p.m., a 44-year-old man entered a financial institution on Main Street in Flin Flon, threatening workers with an explosive device.

"He stated that he had an explosive device in his bag and that he was carrying a firearm," RCMP says in a statement.

The suspect demanded cash, receiving it from a worker. He then left on foot.

When at the scene, officers took a description of the man from a witness. A female officer realized she recognized the suspect, as they had just spoken an hour before the robbery.

The next morning in Denare Beach, Saskatchewan, RCMP officers in the area attended a home believed to be housing the suspect. At 10:15 a.m. the suspect was arrested.

The suspect is a Flin Flon resident. He was arrested and is being charged with Robbery and Uttering Threats. He is currently in custody. RCMP Manitoba is continuing to investigate.
