Manitoba has become the murder capital of Canada and it isn't the only crime on the rise in the province.

According to a Statistics Canada report, the province recorded 72 homicides in 2019.

That is 17 more than in 2018 and gives Manitoba the highest homicide rate per capita in the country.

Shop-lifting in Manitoba was also up by 48 per cent -- that compares to the national average increase of 11 per cent.

The Manitoba government says it is reviewing the report.
