If re-elected in the fall election, the PC party of Manitoba has committed to expanding liquor sales into grocery stores and other vendors.
Kevin Klein, PC candidate for Kirkfield Park, made the announcement on Sunday, saying many other Canadian jurisdictions already allow expanded liquor sales, as do many rural areas in Manitoba.
“Our PC Team has fought to allow more consumer choice when it comes to liquor sales,” said Klein.
He then made a jab at NDP leader Wab Kinew, saying he blocked the bill each step and influenced his union leader friends to cause an unnecessary strike this year.
Klein says the PCs have committed to reintroducing legislation within the first legislative session upon being re-elected as government, adding the bill will be based on consultations with the industry and Manitobans.
He said the Manitoba government will remain the exclusive wholesaler of liquor in the province.
“Manitobans want more choice, and we will fight to make sure they have more choice," said Rick Shone, PC candidate for Fort Garry.
The provincial election will be held on October 3, 2023.
