Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says the high number of deaths corresponds with the high number of COVID-19 cases Manitoba is seeing.

Outbreaks

The province says the outbreak at Portage Evangelical Church in Portage la Prairie is over.

New outbreaks include:

  • St. Boniface Hospital, M2, Winnipeg
  • River East personal care home, Winnipeg
  • Concordia Hospital, N3 East, Winnipeg
  • Health Sciences Centre, PX2 East, Winnipeg
  • Gillam Hospital, Gillam

New cases

There are 919 new COVID-19 cases being recorded Monday. Roussin says this does not reflect the number of COVID-19 tests taken at home that have positive results, saying that the number of cases is much higher than the recorded 919 new cases Wednesday. Roussin does not know if the province has seen a peak in the Omicron wave.

There is now a total of 112,346 recorded COVID-19 cases. Manitoba's five-day test rate is 33.1 per cent.

The province says they have recorded 41,708 people who have active cases, and 69,160 people have recovered.

Vaccinations

Dr. Joss Reimer, the medical lead for the COVID-19 vaccine task force, is encouraging people to get their booster vaccine, especially those older than 50. She says while this group has a two-dose uptake, roughly 90 per cent, but a booster update of less than 61 per cent.

"This group is experiencing, and will continue to experience, more severe outcomes, including hospitalizations, ICU admission and deaths," Reimer says.

Vaccinations at schools will resume in the coming weeks, with the ability for parents to attend the appointment with their child or get their own vaccination with their child.

The COVID-19 vaccine supercentre at the RBC Centre will resume walk-in appointments on Thursday.
