If Manitoba continues to see new COVID-19 infections at the current rate, a new milestone could be hit by the weekend.

With Wednesday's 70 new COVID-19 cases, the province is likely days away from reaching a total of 60,000 confirmed infections. Currency there are 59,880 confirmed cases, and the number of active cases has lowered to 592. Manitoba's test rate is 2.2 per cent

Southern Health Sante Sud continues to see the highest rate of infection with Wednesday's 24 cases being no exception. Winnipeg, which on Monday had an infection rate of 1.1 per cent, saw 28 new cases. The lowering test rate could be in part to a massive jump in the city's testing demand with locations seeing long lineups this week. 

Prairie Mountain Health is seeing 12 new cases, Interlake-Eastern is seeing four new cases, and the Northern health region is seeing two new cases on Wednesday.

Out of all the new infections, there are 10 people who are fully vaccinated, 12 who are partially vaccinated, and 48 who are not vaccinated.

There are 73 people in the hospital, with 37 of them having active cases. Sixty-eight per cent of the active cases are in people who are not vaccinated, 19 per cent in people who are fully vaccinated, and 14 per cent in people who are partially vaccinated. 

In intensive care, there are 15 patients, with seven of those having active cases. Eighty-six per cent of active ICU cases are in people who are not vaccinated and 14 per cent in those who are fully vaccinated.
