Locals are reaching out to their neighbours to the south after an unsettling day. 


On Wednesday, a mob stormed the U.S Capitol in Washington D.C., causing fear for those who were inside the building and unease for those watching.

U.S congressman Jim McGovern was at the site, calling the storming pack domestic terrorists.

Premier Brian Pallister says the events in Washington are disturbing.

"Respect for the democratic process and the peaceful transition of power is a cornerstone of democracy - as Canadians, we deeply value that. Our thoughts are with those who work in the US Capitol for their safety and for a quick de-escalation of the disturbing situation unfolding" the Premier tweets.

Winnipeg's Mayor Brian Bowman took to Twitter, sharing his hope for the U.S

Love and the Outcome says the violent scene is a display of hate, idolatry and privilege.

Additionally, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says democracy must be upheld. 

"Canadians are deeply disturbed and saddened by the attack on democracy in the United States, our closest ally and neighbour. Violence will never succeed in overruling the will of the people. Democracy in the US must be upheld - and it will be," the Prime Minister tweets.
