Blowing snow advisories and poor travel conditions have prompted a number of school divisions to cancel classes and close schools Friday morning.

Around half a dozen school divisions had made the call to cancel classes as or 6:30 a.m. Friday. That includes Hanover School Division, Red River Valley School Division, and Interlake School Division.

You can find the complete and updated list of closures as they come in on the A-Z Electronics road reports and cancellations page.

Wind speeds are gusting anywhere from 60 to 80 km/h throughout the Red River Valley Friday morning. That's not only causing poor visibility on the highways, but Manitoba Infrastructure also reports many highways in the region have snow-covered sections as well as drifting snow in some lanes.

Most divisions that are closed today had also closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving kids a very short school week this week. Students and staff had just returned to the classroom on Monday after the Christmas break and a week of remote learning.
