After over half a century of publication, a Canadian Mennonite newspaper will cease publication of its print publication at the end of 2019.

The MB Herald will cease publication of its print magazine at the end of 2019. The magazine says a lack of financial support and readership resulted in the decision at the AGM for the  Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (CCMBC).

"Due to decreasing revenues for CCMBC support, a depleted reserve fund, and low Herald readership, the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches executive board eliminated funding for the Herald in the 2020 budget. Delegates approved the budget at the Oct. 23, 2019 annual general meeting."

Unfortunately, the budget cuts also mean the loss of four paid positions for the denomination's Communications team. That includes three members of the CCMBC's Winnipeg, Man., office, and one based out of their Abbotsford, B.C., office.

“The conference is grateful for the thoughtful and creative way these staff have served our churches,” says Carson Samson, CCMBC communications and operations director.

“We commit to working with provincial conferences and agency partners, encouraging more voices to be head and extending our reach,” says national director Elton DaSilva.

The CCMBC says the MB Herald website will remain operational and will update with stories from MB churches.

The MB Herald first began publication in 1962.
