The body of a missing teacher from Brandon, Manitoba was discovered by his own mother on Saturday in the German mountain range where he was hiking.

Jeff Freiheit was a high school teacher in Brandon and had been missing in Germany since August 2.

Freiheit's wife and mother had recently travelled to German to help in the search.

A friend of Freiheit's, Rich Manfield, confirmed in a YouTube post that Freiheit's body was discovered by Freiheit's mother, Kathy, at the bottom of a ridge on Saturday, August 26, at 11:36 a.m. local time.

Manfield says they believe that Freiheit fell between 50 and 60 metres.

"We strongly believe that Jeff would have suffered no pain and that his death would have been quick," Manfield says.

Manfield also passed on thanks from the Freiheit family for the outpouring of support they have been shown over the past few weeks.

Several reports have said that local authorities do not suspect foul play.
