A first of its kind in the region, Morden has introduced a bike-share program for its residents and visitors.

Renting the bikes is entirely free through Living Together- Southern Health Grant, Manitoba Build 150, Government of Manitoba, James Richardson & Sons Ltd, Morden Area Foundation, and City of Morden, who sponsored the project.

City of Morden rec programmer Stephanie Dueck says it's a great program and opportunity for the community. Dueck says she is excited to see how it's received.

"It's finally off the ground, and we're really pleased. Although there's not a ton of time left before the winter, we're glad to have it launch so people can try it out for the fall."

Dueck explains they may be able to use the bikes to tour lights come winter as well.

Renting bikes can be done at two locations, Morden Drugstore (3 bikes) or Video Visions (4 bikes).

Bikes must be reserved in advance online or by contacting the Access Event Centre Office. The suggested time frame is up to three hours, but bikes can be used for a full day.

There are no overnight bike rentals permitted at this time.

Anyone ages 18 or older can borrow a bike, and ages 14 to 17 can borrow a bike under adult supervision. Helmets are available for loan with the bikes and are sanitized after each use.
