RCMP in southern Manitoba have put out another warning of counterfeit Canadian currency that is circulating in the region.

The latest reports come out of Selkirk, where local RCMP there received a report on Tuesday afternoon of a suspect attempting to purchase goods at a business located along Manitoba Avenue. Officers were advised that a suspect produced two $100 banknotes in an effort to make a purchase when the cashier suspected they were counterfeit and called the police. The suspect immediately fled the store.

The preliminary investigation has determined that several businesses in Selkirk were targeted, and two suspects were caught on surveillance cameras.

The counterfeit currency was seized, and two of the three bills were found with the same serial number. The three banknotes also had a security feature that is found on a different denomination.

RCMP believe other businesses may have been targeted and urge those accepting $100 Canadian banknotes to examine them carefully.
