Hundreds of motorcyclists rode down Portage Avenue this morning, raising money and awareness to help fight prostate cancer.

Manitoba's 2018 Ride for Dad started around 10 this morning, going west down Portage from Polo Park. They're going to Assiniboia Downs, then to Selkirk and Gimli, and then back to Winnipeg for the wind-up.

The national Ride for Dad began in 2000, but Manitoba's has run since 2009, started by the Winnipeg Police Association. The event has grown from 487 registered riders in 2009 to more than 1,500 now.

Final numbers on what was raised this year are expected tonight. The goal is to beat last year's total of more than $355,000. The Ride for Dad website says money raised in a community stays in that community.
