A young teen is set to appear in court after two fires, including one engulfing a community club, in the same Portage la Prairie spot.

Portage la Prairie's RCMP detachment has arrested a 13-year-old boy for two separate spring fires. The first fire on Garrioch Park Drive was set in a dumpster behind the community club on March 22. At 7:15 p.m., emergency crews arrived to successfully extinguish the fire. No significant damage was reported but authorities began investigating.

One month later, in the early hours of April 29, emergency crews were called back to the same spot, with a significantly different ending. At 1:20 a.m. crews arrives at the community centre, finding a serious fire. This fire's damages were significant, destroying the centre and making it a total loss.

On Monday, a local 13-year-old was arrested and charged for the two fires. Set to appear in his town's court on July 14, the boy is facing Break and Enter, and Arson charges.
