A man is in custody after two people were killed in a home early Thursday morning.

RCMP Manitoba says a man and a woman were killed overnight at a home near River Road and Municipal Road 29E. Responding to distress calls, St. Pierre RCMP officers arrived just after 1:15 a.m., finding the pair dead.

While investigating at nearby residences, someone made a report about a suspicious man nearby, which is unusual for rural Manitoba.

Officers then began patrolling, finding the man and placing him into custody. There is no concern for public safety.

Police are continuing to go door-to-door to collect information and ensure the wellbeing of the neighbours.

RCMP says they have yet to determine if the suspect and victims were connected.

"In terms of how they knew each other, that piece of the puzzle is still being examined," Sergeant Paul Manaigre says.

They are unable to share more details of the investigation.

"We’re not in a position to provide the details on the age of the victims until the family has had time to speak with investigators and be fully briefed on what took place."

Major Crime Services (MCS), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and additional support units are aiding as the investigation continues.
