A child is facing a string of charges after officers found him driving over 100 km/h in a construction zone.

RCMP Manitoba says early Tuesday morning, at 3:38 a.m., officers clocked a van driving 107 km/hour in a construction zone on Highway 1 near Portage la Prairie. The speed limit in the area is 80 km/h.

When officers pulled over the vehicle, they discovered the person in the driver's seat was a boy.

Taking the 12-year-old into custody, he is facing charges including taking a vehicle without consent, speeding, and driving without a licence.
