An 18-year-old Winnipegger with terminal cancer has quickly gone viral after voting in the federal election with just days to live.

Maddison Yetman posted a video to her Facebook and Twitter profiles on Tuesday morning. Not even 24 hours later and the video has been viewed a total of nearly 500,000 times.

"As some of you may or may not know, last week I was diagnosed with terminal cancer," the teen writes on her Facebook post. "This is my last chance to make a difference."

The video shows Yetman going through a number of handwritten signs explaining who she is. Yetman says she was diagnosed with terminal cancer just four days ago.

"It's been estimated that I have only a few days to weeks left," one of her signs say.

However, Yetman wouldn't let the diagnosis stop her from participating in Monday's federal election.

"Despite being bed-ridden and having very limited time I still managed to submit my first-ever federal vote. If I can find the time to vote, you can find the time to vote."

Yetman's tweet has received an enthusiastic response not just from regular citizens but the country's political leaders as well.

Justin Trudeau retweeted the post. "Thank you for inspiring Canadians, and reminding us how precious a vote is," he writes.

"I'm speechless. This is truly powerful, Maddison – thank you for your courage in the face of adversity," NDP leader Jagmeet Singh says in another retweet. "Please watch Maddison's video, and please hear the call to action. Your voice, like Maddison's, deserves to be heard."
