Tougher restrictions to deal with rising COVID-19 numbers in the greater Winnipeg area come into effect today.

For the next two weeks, beverage rooms, bingo halls and casinos in the region must close, while restaurants, lounges, retail stores, museums and libraries will be limited to half capacity. Sports and recreation facilities will be limited to 25 per cent capacity.

Gatherings will be limited to five people and fewer people will be allowed to sit together at a restaurant table.

Meanwhile, churches are able to continue to operate at 30 per cent capacity, including normal church activities, such as youth groups and prayer meetings.

Manitoba reported two new deaths from COVID-19 yesterday. A man and a woman, both in their 70s from the Winnipeg health region.
