A large amount of cocaine is in evidence after RCMP officers pulled over a vehicle making its way across Canada.

RCMP Manitoba says a 44-year-old man from Alberta is facing a Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking charge. On Wednesday afternoon, on Highway 1 in the R.M of Reynolds, an area approximately 50 km west of Falcon Lake RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop.

At approximately 2:55 p.m. the officers began searching the suspect's vehicle, finding approximately eight kilograms of cocaine.

The substance was seized and the suspect taken into custody.

Police learned the substance was bound for Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Eight kilograms of cocaine is a significant seizure anywhere, but in Newfoundland and Labrador, this is even more significant given our small population and geography,” RCMP Sergeant Adam Palmer, Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Federal Serious and Organized Crime in St. John’s Newfoundland says. “We are thankful Manitoba RCMP were able to intercept these drugs before they arrived in our province.”

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
