Dr. Robert Charles Sproul passed away on Thursday afternoon after being admitted to the hospital 12 days ago. He was 78.

"The Sproul family has shared the sad news with us that our founder, Dr. R.C. Sproul, went home to be with the Lord this afternoon," Ligonier Ministries posted to their Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.

Sproul founded Ligonier Ministries in 1971 "to proclaim, teach, and defend the holiness of God in all its fullness to as many people as possible," according to their website.

Sproul was a well known reformed theologian, pastor, and influential preacher. 

He became a Christian in his freshman year of college and would go on to preach the gospel to millions over the last sixty years.

He was also the co-pastor of Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, FL for the last 20 years and the general editor of the Reformation Study Bible.

A memorial service will be held for him December 20th, 2017 at 2:00pm ET at Saint Andrew’s Chapel, Sanford, Florida.
