A collision between two vehicles has resulted in the death of an 82-year-old man.

East St. Paul RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Henderson Highway at the north Perimeter exit ramp on Sunday, August 18.

RCMP says the collision occurred because a driver failed to yield the right of way when turning onto an exit ramp.

In a release, RCMP say, "The investigation has determined that a vehicle, being driven by an 82-year-old male from the RM of East St. Paul, was heading south on Henderson Highway when it attempted to take a left-hand turn onto the north Perimeter exit ramp.

"The vehicle was subsequently struck by a northbound vehicle being driven by a 58-year-old male, also from the RM of East St. Paul."

The driver of the southbound vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. The 82-year-old man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced deceased.

"The 58-year-old male driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, suffered only minor injuries," says RCMP.

Alcohol is not a factor in the collision, but the East St. Paul RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continues to investigate.
