The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating after a vehicle fled from a traffic stop and crashed into a tree early Monday.

At around 12:45 a.m., officers attempted a traffic stop in the Deer Lodge neighbourhood. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the area. 

Officers later found the vehicle in the 400 block of Truro Street, where it had collided with a tree.

There were three occupants in the vehicle, an adult male driver, a teenage passenger and an adult female passenger. All three were transported to hospital. The adult male driver and teenage passenger were transported in unstable condition. The adult female passenger was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries.
 
 The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba was notified and has assumed responsibility for investigating this fatal motor vehicle collision.
