Over 50,000 customers are still in the dark Friday evening, and Manitoba Hydro says despite their best efforts that number keeps growing. Hydro says it's been a record-setting day.

Wet, heavy snow combined with high winds and snapping trees has caused outages throughout much of Winnipeg as well as many areas outside the city.

The utility company says in an update online that over 100,000 customers have experienced power outages on Friday. Hydro's 2016-17 annual report says the company has 580,262 electric customers. That means around 17 per cent of customers were hit by outages Friday.

Crews from other parts of Manitoba unaffected by the storm were brought in to help. So far over 64,000 customers have been restored.

As of 8:30 p.m., Hydro's website says there are 50,582 customers still without power. Manitoba Hydro says that many customers may not have power until Saturday morning.

For people whose homes are growing too cold, Hydro suggests finding accommodations with friends or family if possible.

Hydro is also asking that you check on others in affected areas.

Power outages can be reported on Hydro's website. They also say that you can report trees that are hitting power lines but have not yet caused a power outage.
