The Winnipeg Police Service says a man and a woman are facing charges for break-ins dating back to December.

Releasing details on a long series of criminal activities, the WPS is alleging a woman was involved in 14 break-ins and a man 13, including many instances where both suspects are believed to have been present together. The series of break-ins began on December 26 and ended Tuesday, totalling over $20,000 worth of stolen and damaged property.

  • Between December 26 and December 27, 2020, a stolen building key was used to gain access to a business in the first 100 block of Furby Street. Electronics and a tenant’s personal belongings were stolen. There was a significant amount of cost associated with re-keying several tenant’s locks. 
  • On January 30, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a male and female entered through an insecure condominium’s front door in the 2600 block of Portage Avenue. Once inside, they broke into a storage area, stealing a tenant’s property.

  • On February 9, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a male and female entered a residential building through an insecure door in the 100 block of Roslyn Road. Once inside, they broke into a bicycle storage area and subsequently fled the area.

  • On February 19, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a male and female obtained a stolen key to access an apartment in the 500 block of River Avenue. Once inside, they broke into the parking garage, where they entered more than one tenant’s parked vehicles and fled the area.  Minutes later, the same suspects broke into another nearby condominium in the 200 block of Roslyn Road. Once inside, they were confronted by building personnel and fled the area.

  • On February 20, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a male and female entered a business in the 400 block of Des Meurons Street through an insecure door. Once inside, they broke into the mailroom, stealing mail and building keys.

  • Between March 3 and March 4, a male broke into a business while in the company of five unidentified suspects in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue and stole various electronic items.

  • On March 4, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a male and female re-entered the business in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue, where they stole a set of keys. The suspects were startled by employees inside the business and fled the area.

  • On March 10, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a male and female broke into a retirement residence in the Mathers Community. Once inside, they damaged locks and stole property.

  • On March 14, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a male and female broke into a condominium in the 100 block of Swindon Way. Once inside, they entered the parkade and broke into a tenant’s locker, and stole property.

  • On March 24, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a male and female broke into a condominium in the 300 block of Waterfront Drive. Once inside, they broke into numerous rooms, including storage areas. Electronics, bicycles and mail were stolen but later recovered in the underground parking lot.

  • On April 3, at approximately 1:00 p.m., two males broke into a business in the first 100 block of Nassau Street. Once inside, they entered an office and stole rental cheques.

  • On April 4, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a male and two females broke into a business in the first 100 block of Goulet Street. Nothing was reported stolen; however, the cost associated with re-keying all the locks was over $12,000.

  • On Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m., police observed one of the female suspects leaving a business in the 3100 block of Portage Avenue. She was arrested on the strength of five outstanding warrants.

  • On Tuesday, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a male broke into an apartment in the 600 block of Strathcona Street. Once inside, he attempted to access the parkade when a witness observed him and contacted the police.

Police say the lengthy investigation is leading them to chare a 30-year-old woman with 14 break and enter-related charges and five break and enter-related warrants. A 29-year-old man is facing 13 break and enter-related charges and eight break and enter-related warrants.
