Manitoba RCMP are investigating a train derailment near the community of Katrime.

Emergency crews responded to PR 350 and Road 73N at around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

RCMP say there were 12 people on board the train when it derailed. All passengers and the crew are still being assessed, but at this time the injuries do not appear to be serious.

It is unclear as to what caused the derailment. The cause is currently under investigation.

First responders remain on scene tending to the seven passengers and five crew members who were on board at the time of the derailment, according to Karl-Philip Marchand Giguere, public relations for VIA Rail.

Highway 350, at Road 73N (in the community of Katrime), is now closed. A detour is in effect.

Katrime is located 10 kilometres north of MacGregor, Manitoba.
