Sue Sorensen is dusting off her typewriter for World Poetry Day.

Local Winnipeg poets have been asked to join the Canadian Mennonite University’s English Department to write spontaneous poetry.

On March 21 Canadian Mennonite University is hosting a free Pop-up Poetry session for the public. From noon until one pm at the Folio Café in Marpeck Commons there will be a combination of professional poets and students writing on the spot poetry for the public.

Sorenson has been planning this event for months and is very excited to share poetry.

“We’re just hoping that we’re getting some excitement happening,” said Sue Sorensen, Associate Professor of English at the Canadian Mennonite University.

From noon until one p.m. people can walk up to the poets and ask them to write a poem for them. The poems can be about anything the audience wants and the poet writes a poem on the spot for them.
