Police are asking for assistance from the public after an elementary school child was assaulted after hours on June 1 in the 400 block of Flora Avenue.

The Winnipeg Child Abuse Unit is investigating after two children were at the school playground at 5:15 p.m. when an unknown male approached them. He began by making sexually explicit comments, then grabbed one of the children before touching her in a sexual manner.

The suspect has been described as a Black male with dreadlocks in his 20s.

The school has been notified and will follow up with correspondence to parents and caregivers regarding student awareness. Safety planning will follow.
