Winnipeg Police Service says that an 11-year-old boy is physically fine after an abduction attempt on Friday, April 14.

The WPS said in a press release that at approximately 3:25 p.m., they responded to a report of an attempted abduction of a child, which had occurred a few minutes earlier.

The frightening scene took place in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Parr Street, when they young boy was confronted by an adult male.

The suspect grabbed the victim and attempted to drag him away. Thankfully the victim fought against the male and was able to break away and flee, however, he was chased by the suspect for some distance. The victim was able to evade the suspect and ultimately get safely to his residence. 

The WPS said they conducted "an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect."

  • The suspect is described as:
  • male in his 40’s
  • balding, medium build
  • reading glasses, grey coloured shirt
  • grey and orange coloured jacket (grey from the chest down with orange on the shoulders)
  • blue jeans, and white/grey coloured shoes

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
