An unexpected discovery has led the city to limit traffic on a portion of McPhillips Street over the next several weeks.

During excavation of the roadway through the underpass, buried elements of the bridge structure were uncovered and found to be in very poor condition requiring immediate repair. After consulting with Canadian Pacific Railway, the owner of the bridge, it was determined that a full closure of northbound traffic would be necessary to allow the railway to complete the unexpected repairs.

Starting Friday August 3, 2018 at 6 p.m., McPhillips Street between Logan Avenue and Jarvis Avenue will be converted to single lane operation, operating one way (southbound only) at all times.

Motorists are advised to planed ahead and to use alternate routes such as Route 90, Keewatin Street or the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge.

Winnipeggers are asked not to use the Arlington Bridge as an alternate route, as it has a limited capacity.

The closure will remain in effect for the next several weeks.
