The Willson family from Portage la Prairie is rejoicing after hearing the doctors removed most of their daughter's lemon-sized brain tumour.

Elizabeth Willson had been feeling dizzy and nauseous for a couple of months before her family took her to a doctor. It was through a series of tests and appointments they located a tumour the size of a lemon, just above her cerebellum.

After an eight-hour surgery on February 9, the family waited for results from the biopsy taken after doctors removed the tumour.

"We spent two weeks in the hospital after surgery with her being monitored," says Katharina Willson, Elizabeth's mother.

Although the family thought the results of the biopsy would be shared after those two weeks, they had to wait another two before the results were given. Katharina shares it was worth the wait.

"Doctors said 95 per cent or more of the tumour was removed." Katharina says she feels "major relief and is very happy with the results given."

On top of having most of the tumour removed, the Willson's were told the prognosis for Elizabeth's future is good.

"On the 16th of March we went to see the doctor at the cancer care clinic and they explained to us what type of tumour it was. It's a Pediatric Glioma tumour and there's only a 15-20 per cent chance of it growing back."

Overall, Elizabeth has been healing nicely since her brain surgery.

"We're still working on balance because it's just going to take time to get back to where she was. Walking is fine, but she gets off balance when she tries to go faster than a walk."

Every three months for the next year Elizabeth will have MRIs to keep an eye on it, but for now the family is relieved and thank God for the results.

"She's very excited to go back to school. As soon as we got the information from the doctor, she wanted to go back to school the same day."

Both Elizabeth and Katharina, who works in her daughter's school, will be gracing the halls with their presence after Spring break.
